Mooney Law Accepting Camp Lejeune Lawsuit Cases

President Biden has signed the “Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022” into law. This Act allows military veterans to file civil lawsuits against the U.S. Government for harm caused by at least thirty days of exposure to water at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina from August 1, 1953 to December 31, 1987.  Veterans and their families that have been exposed may now seek compensation for their damages related to the harmful water contamination. To be eligible, you must prove that you were stationed in Camp Lejune for at least 30 days between the years 1953 and 1987, and that the condition you’ve developed is a known effect caused by exposure to those chemicals.

The three chemicals found in the drinking water at Camp Lejeune between 1953-1987, trichloroethylene, vinyl chloride, and benzene, are considered carcinogenic.  If you’ve developed cancer or experienced birth defects since your time at Camp Lejeune, among other illnesses, there’s a strong chance you have a valid claim. Mooney Law is here to help Central Pennsylvania and Maryland veterans pursue justice.

These contaminants found in Camp Lejeune’s water supply for 35 years are known to be dangerous and have been shown to cause specific types of cancer, birth defects, neurologic disorders, as well as other serious health conditions.  There are higher rates of cancer documented from exposures to these chemicals, including:

  • Breast cancer
  • Leukemia
  • Bladder cancer
  • Kidney cancer
  • Liver Cancer
  • Multiple myeloma
  • Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
  • Esophageal cancer
  • Lung cancer
  • Multiple myeloma

That is not it though.  Other serious health conditions are well documented, including:

  • Infertility / miscarriage
  • Cardiac defects
  • Fatty liver disease
  • Neurobehavioral conditions
  • Plastic anemia
  • Scleroderma
  • Hepatic Steatosis
  • ALS (Lou Gerhig’s Disease)
  • Parkinson’s Disease
